Robert joined the charity on 1 September 2008 which brought him back “home” having served as a warfare officer in the Royal Navy in the 1980s. After a 20 year “interim” stint with Barclays, which took him all over the UK and Europe, he took the helm of the Charity at the beginning of the voyage of discovery that awaited.

His range of involvement in the charity sector includes being a Governor of the Royal Star and Garter Homes, Director of Cobseo – the Confederation of Service Charities and of Veterans Scotland and he is also a member of the Finance Committee of the Mary Rose Trust.

Robert is Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights and a Younger Brother of Trinity House. 

Robert was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in January 2017 in recognition of his services to naval personnel.

Robert lives on the South Downs with his wife Amanda, a specialist teacher.
