Warrant Officer Class 1 Jamie Wright RM

WO1 Wright RM was educated at Sir John Hunt School in Plymouth and worked as a builder’s labourer prior to joining the Royal Marines in 1995 at the age of 18. After successfully completing training as an original member of 691 Troop and being awarded the Commando Medal, he was assigned to the Heavy Weapons Specialisation as a Milan Operator. On completion of his specialist training, he was drafted to 42 Commando RM. Whilst serving in Support Company, he deployed to Norway three times and completed his first operational tour in 1998 of Crossmaglen, Northern Ireland under OP BANNER.

In 2000, WO1 Wright transferred branches across to the Clerks Specialisation and was assigned to 40 Commando RM. During this time he was selected for promotion to Corporal and attended Junior Command Course. After completing Clerks Specialist Qualification level 2, he joined the Commando Training Centre RM. WO1 Wright worked for a short period as a Clerk before then transferring across to the Drill Specialisation in 2003.

He successfully qualified as a Drill Instructor finishing top of his course and took his place amongst the Parade Staff in 2003. In 2005 he was assigned to the Royal Marine School of Music as a Local Sergeant and was then subsequently selected for Senior Command Course training. Specialist and Command Course training complete, he was drafted to 40 Commando in 2006 as a Close Combat Troop Sergeant and deployed on OP HERRICK 7 with Alpha Company.    

On return to the United Kingdom he was promoted to Colour Sergeant in 2008 and assigned to the Royal Marines Young Officer Training Team as the Quarter Master/Drill Instructor at the Commando Training Centre RM. This was followed by a short term as the Chief Instructor at the Parade Office. WO1 Wright was selected for promotion to Warrant Officer Class 2 and attended Advanced Command Course in January 2011.

As a Warrant Officer Class 2 he served for a short period as the Corps Colonel’s department Sergeant Major before being reassigned to 45 Commando as X Ray Company Sergeant Major in 2012.  During his time in 45 Commando, his company deployed in support of the Olympics and conducted Short Term Training Team Tasks assisting the government of Sierra Leon during the elections.

Promoted to Warrant Officer Class one in 2015, WO1 Wright was appointed as Specialist Advisor and First Drill for the Royal Marines. He attended Intermediate Staff Course Maritime prior to embarking on EWO appointments onboard HMS Northumberland and then Fleet Flagship HMS Albion. Whilst onboard the Fleet Flagship, he deployed on numerous exercises including Ex Joint Warrior, South West Sword, Cold Response, a JEF(M), OP BALTIC PROTECTOR and completed a challenging Capitol Ship OST.

WO1 Wright’s most recent assignment has been as the Command Warrant Officer at the DCLPA working for a 1* Headquarters.

After a rigorous selection process WO1 Wright was successful in being the next Warrant Officer to the Royal Navy.

Married with two young children, WO1 Wright lives in small village called Morchard Bishop on the edge of Exmoor. Endeavouring to maintain a decent level of fitness he is a keen golfer and cyclist and revels in competition.
