Supporting Tomorrow’s Air Engineers: RNRMC Funds Renovation of Senior Course Crew Room at HMS Sultan.

General, Serving Personnel

Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has awarded a significant grant to HMS Sultan’s Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival Equipment School (RNAESS) to support the renovation of the Daedalus Senior Course Crew Room, a key communal space for Senior Engineering trainees.

The refurbishment is set to transform the existing space into a more comfortable, modern environment, made for training, coworking, and community building.  Works have included reconfiguring the layout to develop a dedicated study area with desks, a whiteboard, and a presentation screen.

These improvements aim to enhance both the wellbeing and learning experience of trainees as they progress through the demanding Senior Course programme. Assembly and decorating works will be completed by System Engineering & Management Course (SEMC) students, supported by the chain of command, making it a collaborative and hands-on effort.

Sub-Lieutenant Hamish Pratt, who submitted the grant application, said:

This investment in our training facilities will have a direct impact on the wellbeing and learning experience of our Air Engineering trainees, who represent the future technical capability of the Fleet Air Arm.

In 2024 alone, the RNRMC supported over 62,000 beneficiaries, including quality of life improvements for serving personnel. This latest renovation reflects our continued commitment to supporting those who serve.

The RNAESS forms a crucial part of the Defence College of Technical Training, delivering world-class validated professional training to engineers who will maintain the Royal Navy's sophisticated aircraft and systems. These skilled professionals represent the backbone of Naval aviation capabilities, ensuring aircraft remain operational for critical missions worldwide.

The partnership between RNRMC and RNAESS demonstrates the ongoing commitment to nurturing the talent and expertise that keeps the Royal Navy's aircraft operational around the globe, supporting missions from humanitarian aid to maritime security.
