£30,000 was distributed amongst local charities and good causes recently at a special reception at HMS Sultan.

A total of 46 recipients were presented with donations from funds raised at Establishment events, by Captain Peter Towell, the Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan.

Donations were made to a wide spectrum of beneficiaries, ranging from The Mayor of Gosport’s Charity Appeal and youth organisations including scout groups and cadet units, right through to charities aimed specifically at supporting the infirmed or elderly.

In addition, Service charities including, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, Aggie Weston’s and the annual HMS Sultan Summer Camp for Blind Veterans UK were also among those to benefit.

Hilary Hesbrook, Fundraising Co-ordinator at the RNRMC, said:

“On behalf of the RNRMC, I would like to sincerely thank everyone at HMS Sultan for this generous donation following their Summer Show.

The Sultan Show is a fantastic community event and without the unwavering support of the organisers, we simply wouldn’t be able to award such a wide array of grants to our many Naval Service beneficiaries. Thank you and well done to all involved.”

Captain Towell said: “It is with great pleasure that we welcome so many of our local and Service charities into HMS Sultan today for our Charity Chest presentation. The donation of £30,000 has been made possible, thanks to a successful Summer Show, which was generously supported by the people of Gosport.”

“There are so many wonderful things being achieved locally within the charity and voluntary sector, and while we are unable to support every one of them, we hope that the donations made today will go some way towards making a positive and lasting impact.”
