Devonport Open Day Offers Rare Glimpse Inside UK’s Largest Naval Base

Event, Families, General

We were proud to join the Royal Navy and Babcock International to welcome thousands of visitors to HM Naval Base Devonport!

The Devonport Open Days offered members of the public a rare and fascinating glimpse of a working naval base and dockyard in action.

The first day, Thursday 24 July, welcomed families of those working on site. On Friday, 25 July, the base opened its gates to external visitors, who had successfully entered a ballot for free tickets.

Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, the principal charity of the Royal Navy, was honoured to participate in the event, showcasing the lifelong support available to all Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Royal Fleet Auxiliary serving personnel, veterans, and their families.

This vibrant, family-friendly event featured themed zones across the expansive Devonport site. Visitors had the chance to meet serving Royal Navy personnel and elite Royal Marine Commandos, explore naval exhibits, and discover more about life in the Senior Service.

Impressive maritime and aerial displays highlighted Royal Navy capabilities, while engaging exhibits and challenges inspired younger minds to explore careers in science and engineering, and the armed forces. Attendees could also test themselves with military fitness challenges and learn about physical training within the services.

Additional highlights included performances by the HM Royal Marines Band, MoD Police dog demonstrations, and the thrilling Wonderstruck Science Show - all adding to the day’s dynamic atmosphere.
