Last week, representatives from Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and Greenwich Hospital visited Royal Marines Condor in Arbroath to deepen their understanding of the needs within the Royal Marines community and explore future funding support opportunities.
The delegation included Sam Nicolson (Interim CEO, RNRMC), Deirdre Mills (Director, Greenwich Hospital), and Jonathan Ball (Director of Grants, Greenwich Hospital). They were hosted by Lt Col Alex Nixon and WO1(RSM) Jon Mosley, and the visit was made possible thanks to the support of Matt Jackson DSO, CEO of RMA – The Royal Marines Charity.
The programme included a visit to the Medical and Rehabilitation Centre, recreation and welfare facilities, and discussions with representatives from RMA-TRMC, the Naval Families Federation, Aggie Weston’s, the chaplaincy team, and a cross-section of serving personnel.
A particularly poignant moment took place in the Woodlands Memorial Garden—a peaceful and symbolic space created in the shape of the Royal Marines cap badge. It commemorates all Royal Marines lost since 45 Commando moved to Arbroath in 1971, featuring stones from every conflict location since. Originally part-funded by RNRMC, the garden’s upkeep is now supported by RMA-TRMC in return for the unit hosting an annual major fundraising event.
Sam Nicolson, Interim CEO of RNRMC, commented:
“Our visit to Royal Marines Condor was both humbling and inspiring. Hearing firsthand from serving personnel and support teams reinforced the importance of our continued investment in wellbeing, recovery and community connection.
“Working closely with our partners at Greenwich Hospital, we’re committed to ensuring the right support reaches those who need it most. I’d also like to thank Matt Jackson and RMA – The Royal Marines Charity for facilitating such a valuable and insightful day.”
This visit marks a renewed commitment to understanding the evolving needs of the Royal Marines community, and ensuring that charitable support is focused, collaborative, and impactful.
