HMS Oardacious

One Race. 4 Submariners. 3000 Miles. 100,000 Pounds.

In December 2019, four Royal Navy submariners will row unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean, departing from the Canary Islands to reach Nelson's Dockyard Antigua a month later, as part of the Talisker Atlantic Challenge 2019.

Their aim is to be the first team to cross the finish line, and to raise over £100,000 for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity to develop a specific project around improving mental health in the submarine community.

Operation Resilience

Submariners are some of the Royal Navy’s most exceptional personnel. Living below the surface for up to three months at a time creates a unique community where everyone helps one another. But it also presents a number of challenges including, living and working in a confined space, dealing with a continuous cycle of 6-hour on, 6-hour off shifts, and having no contact with the outside world.

As a psychologically demanding job, the mental well-being of submariners is just as important as their physical well-being. The HMS Oardacious campaign aims to raise at least £100,000 to develop a project through the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, to provide mental health and well-being support to the Submarine community.

Why Support HMS Oardacious

Yoar-dacious Challenge

Throughout the campaign we have had no shortage of “what can I do to help?” and “how can I get involved?” Well, ask no further!

We have created The Official Oardacious Challenge. Anyone can get involved, at any fitness level and any ability. The challenge is to row 50km in recognition of the 50 Years Continuous At Sea Deterrent (CASD50). The event was first introduced at MOD Abbey Wood by HMS Oardacious' very own Hugo Mitchell-Heggs. Unlike Hugo, you don't have to complete the challenge alone. In teams of up to 10, you can complete the race in a relay.
