The First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sir Philip Jones visited the China Fleet Country Club recently and officially opened the Club's 41 refurbished cottages and apartments.

Admiral Jones was impressed with the high-standard facilities which are now available to all serving and ex-serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their families and congratulated all involved in the project.

The ambitious £1.1m project was supported by the RNRMC to the tune of £195k over 3 years.  Admiral Jones and Commodore Chris Steel, RNRMC Ambassador, attended the unveiling along with the China Fleet Trust Chairman Rear Admiral Mike Wood.

The China Fleet Trust is a registered Military Charity, who own the China Fleet Country Club in Saltash and provide Royal Navy & Royal Marines personnel and their families with leisure, golf, wedding, functions and accommodation services. In order to support their charitable activities, they also welcome civilian members, thereby supporting the charitable objective whilst embracing the military covenant.

All acknowledged the importance of service charities with shared beneficiary pools working together for the wider naval family and just how much can be achieved by successful collaboration.

The China Fleet Trust CEO, Alex Sharpe described how the project was managed over the quieter periods at the Club to minimise disruption on guests whilst avoiding adverse impact on availability.

Admiral Wood was able to reassure the Sea Lord that although the Trust has invested some £4m over the last 5 years in upgrading all areas of the Club it was determined to keep facilities affordable and accessible for beneficiaries.
