Lt Commander Gemma Winterton is a Training Manager by specialisation in the Royal Navy. She and her husband, have two young children.

Gemma started her Naval career as a reservist, spending seven and a half months in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand province, Afghanistan. There she was responsible for running Radio Tamadoon, a local Pashto-language radio station. This role involved working with local and national journalists to produce public awareness programmes.

Understandably the unpredictability of service life often places a significant strain on families, particularly when both parents are serving. Gemma’s children are navigating  the complexities of service life which can often feel different from that of their peers.
