About us Our people Trustees Vice Patron - Mr Lance Batchelor Lance Batchelor, aged 52, is the CEO of Saga plc, the FTSE-listed provider of Insurance, Travel, Financial Services and Homecare to the over 50s. Lance joined Saga in March 2014 in time to help list the company on the Stock Exchange in May. Prior to Saga, Lance was the CEO of Domino's Pizza plc from 2011-14 and the CEO of Tesco Mobile from 2008-11. Earlier in his career, he was in turn Marketing Director at Procter & Gamble, Amazon.com, and Vodafone. Lance's early career was in the Royal Navy, where he served for eight years starting in 1982. During his time, he started as an RNR watch-keeping officer in the minesweeper HMS St David and completed his training in HMS Invincible, HMS Shetland and HMS Brave. Lance qualified as a watch-keeping officer and Ship's Diving Officer in 1987 then as a submariner in 1988. He then served in HMS Conqueror, a hunter-killer submarine (SSN), completing a number of Cold War patrols. His last RN role was as Flag Lieutenant to the Flag Officer Submarines, based at the Northwood HQ. Lance left the RN in 1991. Lance holds a BSc (Econ) from Aberystwyth University (1985) and an MBA from Harvard Business School (1993). He is a Trustee of the National Gallery and Chairman of the National Gallery Company. In 2017 he was confirmed as an Honorary Officer taking the rank of Honorary Commander RNR. Lance is married to Wendy, a solicitor, and they have four sons aged 10-19. They divide their time between London and rural West Berkshire.
