Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity grant In March 2015, The Royal Alfred Seafarers Society received a grant of £50,000 from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. The grant was to assist with the final phase of a refurbishment and improvement programme at their Weston Acres site, addressing the principal shortfall of day room provision on the upstairs nursing floor resulting from the interminable increase in age and nursing dependency or their residents since the Home was opened in 2001. Whilst the new lounge extension was at the core of the construction project, the opportunity was also taken to modernise and improve ancillary spaces such as the pharmacy, dining room, kitchen and nursing stations as well as embarking on a 2-year programme of individual en-suite bedroom renovations.
