The Naval Service Sports Charity (NSSC) enhances sport provision in the Naval Service and, through this, promotes improved efficiency and morale in-service personnel.

The Charity is managed by Gareth Hughes, the Director of Operations, who works very closely with Captain People Support and his staff to ensure that charitable funds maximise improvements to sports facilities and provide support for representative sports teams and individual sportsmen and women from across the Naval Service. It also provides grants which contribute to the running costs of the Royal Navy’s sports associations and regional sports activity. Furthermore, the Naval Service Sports Charity helps fund individual elite (or near-elite), sportsmen and women, in addition to coaching and sports officials.

The Naval Service Sports Charity owns and manages the Naval Service Sports Accommodation at HMS Temeraire, Portsmouth and is the employer for some of the sports development officers who work for Captain People Support.

The NSSC is a grant-making charity that supports the RNRMC Fit for Life Funding Pathway in order to:

  • Further the efficiency and morale of Naval Service personnel through sport and adventure training.
  • Contribute to naval ethos by enabling fitness, teamwork, leadership, discipline, determination, courage, competitive spirit and resilience through participation and volunteering.
  • Promote health and wellbeing.
  • Strengthen the intent to continue in service through a broad menu of sporting opportunity.
