Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is proud to  support the Portsmouth Naval Gliding Centre (PNGC) with essential funding to secure aircraft and equipment shelters at their new operating base at Middle Wallop.

For over 70 years, PNGC has provided adventurous training and sport through gliding, helping Service personnel develop skills such as teamwork, confidence and decision-making. Now based at Middle Wallop, the Centre continues to deliver opportunities that support both the efficiency of the Naval Service and the personal growth of those who serve.

To strengthen their operations at their new location, PNGC needed dedicated shelters to protect their gliders, tug aircraft and support vehicles. An RNRMC grant enabled the construction of a new hangar and vehicle shelter, safeguarding valuable equipment and ensuring the Centre could continue to provide high-quality adventurous training experiences.

Flt Lt M W Westwood, 2 Air Experience Flight QFI, reflected on the difference RNRMC support made:

RNRMC responded swiftly to our situation with  grants to providing a hangar, and later a vehicle shelter, which made all the difference to the viability of the club and its ability to deliver AT/Sport to members of the Naval Service and remainder of the Armed Forces.

The new facilities have already made a significant difference. Aircraft and vehicles are now safely sheltered, protecting them from wear and tear and allowing maintenance to take place in optimal conditions. This keeps PNGC’s fleet ready for action while creating more opportunities for personnel to take part in adventurous training. Thanks to the determination of PNGC and the backing of RNRMC, Naval Service gliding has a strong and sustainable future at Middle Wallop. Together, we are ensuring that serving personnel continue to access the unique opportunities and benefits that adventurous training provides.
