Supporting Morale Across the Royal Navy and Royal Marines

Event, General, Serving Personnel

In 2025 so far, Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has proudly supported 145 morale-boosting events for serving personnel and their families. With £158,721.18 in grants awarded, these activities have reached 18,944 serving personnel across the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Submariners, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Maritime Reserves, and Fleet Air Arm, as well as thousands of dependants.

These morale days provide vital opportunities for serving personnel and their loved ones to connect, relax, and strengthen bonds – both at sea and ashore.

From sports and adventure activities to family gatherings and team-building days, every event brings people together, offering space to recharge and reset during demanding times of service.

What people have said...

It gave the whole force on base an opportunity to eat together and share time. Junior rates have been talking about this for weeks. Getting the Captain of the Base and the President of the JR mess together over lunch has raised the profile of the JR mess and leisure facilities and has put some ideas together for future projects.

The event was a great success. The Warfare Department enjoyed a fantastic day out with everyone bonding together as teams. It has helped to reset the team after a long deployment and before entering a BOST (Basic Operational Sea Training) package. The money from RNRMC and The Rebalancing Lives Fund was greatly appreciated in relieving the financial pressure that an event like this can have on people.

HMS Portland

For us to be able to provide our families with the opportunity to all come together for this social occasion was outstanding. It is a massive boost to morale for Ship’s Company, alongside visits to the Submarine there were refreshments and activities for families, followed by a BBQ in the afternoon. Families have even kept in touch after meeting for the first time – something that could not have happened without this event.

HMS Artful – event funded by RNRMC, Oardacious, and TSF.

Members of HMS Protectors SC took part in a fun fuelled afternoon of Go Karting in Middlesbrough. This was partially funded by the RNRMC and allowed people of all ranks to come together and have some much-needed down time away from the ships busy programme whilst alongside. The event not only brought ranks together in a atmosphere but also contributed to the boosting of the morale of all.

Why these events matter

Life in the Naval Service is unique, with extended deployments, demanding training, and long separations from family. Morale days are more than just social gatherings – they are essential in maintaining wellbeing, strengthening communities, and ensuring that personnel and their families feel connected and supported.

By providing grants for these activities, RNRMC ensures that those who serve, and the families who support them, continue to feel valued and recognised.
