The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity was honoured to attend the VJ Commemorative Service and celebratory tea party held at St Mary’s Church, Portchester. The event, organised by the local WW2 veterans’ group Project 71, brought together members of the community to remember and reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who fought in the Far East during the Second World War.
The ceremony was attended by many veterans, including several who served during the Second World War. Their presence was a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of the generation who gave so much in the pursuit of peace.
Following the service, guests gathered for a celebratory tea party where veterans, families, and community members came together to share stories and enjoy the company of friends old and new.
Speaking after the event, representatives from RNRMC said:
“We were privileged to be part of such a special occasion. It was a moving day of reflection and gratitude, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to Project 71 for organising the event and inviting us to join the commemoration.”
The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity remains committed to supporting the naval community past and present, ensuring that the service and sacrifice of all who served is never forgotten.
