HMS Sultan welcomed serving personnel, veterans, families and friends to a night like no other, as the sports and recreation centre was transformed into a wrestling arena for an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
As the lights dimmed and the entrance music began, wrestlers took to the ring to showcase their strength, athleticism and showmanship in a classic battle of good versus evil. The crowd roared with every slam, cheer and near-fall, fully embracing the spectacle as four action-packed matches followed by one giant rumble unfolded across the evening. Champions were crowned, rivalries ignited, and memories firmly secured.
Thanks to funding from Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), the event remained free at the point of entry for attendees. Our grant covered essential costs including performer fees, equipment hire, staging and safety requirements – ensuring the event was professionally delivered, safe, and accessible to all.
Designed to strengthen community cohesion on base, boost morale and create opportunities for families to spend quality time together, the evening demonstrated the power of shared experiences. Events like this provide valuable moments of connection and respite for those serving, alongside their loved ones, in a safe, engaging and inclusive environment.
Delivered by experienced performers, the show brought high-energy entertainment directly to the Naval community, removing barriers to access and ensuring everyone could take part in the fun.
The lead organiser, Sports Development Officer, Dan Turner said:
The wrestling event at HMS Sultan is a fantastic example of how sport and entertainment can bring our base community together while supporting an important cause. Events like this provide a real boost to morale for HMS Sultan staff and their families, creating a relaxed, inclusive environment where people can spend quality time together away from the pressures of day-to-day work and training. It is especially important that our families feel connected to life on base, and evenings like this help strengthen that sense of belonging and community.
This event would not have been possible without the generous support of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. Their backing has been instrumental in allowing us to deliver an event that is both high quality and accessible to service personnel and their families. We would like to thank the RNRMC for their support in bringing this event to fruition. The funding and support provided has enabled us to create a meaningful experience that supports wellbeing, community engagement, and charitable fundraising, and we are extremely grateful for their continued commitment to improving life for those who serve.
