The festive season was well and truly ushered in this December as the Massed Bands of His Majesty’s Royal Marines delivered two magical Christmas spectaculars in Portsmouth and Bath.
Renowned for their musical excellence, precision, and pageantry, the world-class musicians of the Royal Marines Band Service brought warmth, joy, and festive cheer to packed audiences across both cities.
From the opening notes of Little Drummer Boy to the lively rhythms of Feliz Navidad and the timeless sentiment of Auld Lang Syne, the cast offered a rich variety of performances that showcased the incredible range and skill of the Band Service.
One of the undoubted highlights of the evening was the Christmas Sing-Alongs – a heart-warming, audience-friendly medley that brought together some of the nation’s most beloved carols. Featuring classics such as Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and Deck the Halls, the arrangement encouraged everyone in the hall to join in. The seamless flow from one carol to the next created a shared moment of nostalgia and togetherness, reminding us all of the simple pleasure of singing with family, friends, and community during the festive period.
As one of the most musically diverse organisations in the United Kingdom, the Royal Marines Band Service is globally renowned for its versatility and excellence. Their work spans everything from state occasions and national celebrations to international tours, high-profile concerts, and support for Royal Navy operations.
As the principal charity of the Royal Navy, Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity exists to support sailors, marines and their familes – for life.
The funds raised from these Christmas spectaculars directly help the charity continue its vital work: from providing crisis and family support to enhancing everyday life on deployment, funding mental health services, and supporting veterans as they transition into civilian life.
We extend a huge thank you to our volunteers, who offered their time selling programmes and bucket collecting throughout the performances. Their contribution, and the generosity of the audiences, helps ensure that we can continue supporting our Naval family throughout their lives.
We wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
