The Joint Forces Command (JFC) Naples Field Gun Team hauled their 1.2-tonne Naval cannon up the slopes of Mount Vesuvius! 🌋
Back for its second year, this “Volcano Drag” is a challenge that fuses historical reverence with modern grit - bringing together raw strength, precision teamwork, and unstoppable determination.
The slopes of Vesuvius are steep, uneven, and unforgiving. Every meter climbed is earned through sweat, coordination, and sheer determination. This is not a solo effort, it is a collective triumph, powered by a multi-national team whose strength lies in their shared commitment to one another and to the cause they represent. It is a living tribute to the values that define our Armed Forces: discipline, resilience, and camaraderie across borders.
This event is more than a physical challenge - it is a legacy in motion. The JFC Naples Field Gun Team remains the only crew in the world to have completed this gruelling task, setting a precedent for what can be achieved when service members unite behind a mission that transcends individual effort. Their success last year was historic; their return this year is a testament to their enduring spirit and the power of purpose.

Pulling a 1.2-ton Field Gun up Vesuvius shows what the team can achieve when you trust each other and stay focused on the task. We carry the reputation of JFC Naples with every step. As we transition to a warfighting headquarters, team ethos matters more than ever. We also have the full support of our Commander Admiral Wikoff and our Chief of Staff Lt Gen Sganga. They value the discipline and commitment we show. This challenge proves strength and unity. I am proud of every one of this incredible multi-national crew.
