Honouring the Submarine Community at the 2025 Submarine Awards

Event, Families, General, Serving Personnel, Veterans

The Submarine Awards are always a special moment in the calendar — a chance to pause, come together, and celebrate the unique spirit of the submarine community. This year’s event, supported by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and The Submarine Family (TSF), shone a light on the dedication, resilience, and camaraderie that makes this community so remarkable.

What makes the evening truly special is the people it celebrates. The nominations we received this year were nothing short of inspiring, each one telling a story of service, selflessness, and commitment. They remind us that the strength of the Submarine Service doesn’t just come from those serving at sea, but also from the families and communities who support them every step of the way.

The Dean Rogers Award

At the heart of the evening is the presentation of the Dean Rogers Award. Named in memory of a submariner remembered for his service and generosity of spirit, the award recognises those who continue that legacy through their extraordinary contribution to the Service and beyond.

This year, the award was presented to Chief Petty Officer Paul Foran, whose outstanding 45-year career has touched countless lives.

Paul’s impact can be felt across generations of submariners. As Senior Instructor at the Submarine School, he has set the highest standards while always taking time to mentor and support those under his guidance. His dedication to remembering the Service’s history shines through his role as trustee of We Remember Submariners, helping to ensure the stories of those who served beneath the waves live on.

But Paul’s influence goes far beyond the Navy. From coaching Field Gun teams and running tours that inspire the next generation, to volunteering locally and supporting colleagues and veterans through challenges, he has always put others first. Those who know him speak of his humility, his generosity of spirit, and the countless ways he has made a difference in people’s lives.

CPO Paul Foran is an outstanding role model and a worthy recipient of the Dean Rogers Award. His example reminds us of the very best of the submarine community.

Coming Together to Support

The evening wasn’t just about celebration — it was also about giving back. Thanks to the generosity of the community, funds were raised for both the RNRMC and Brain House Children’s Hospice through a raffle for a Triumph motorcycle, kindly donated to CPO Iain Hamblin. The raffle winner was announced on the night as ticket number 01987

A Community Like No Other

The Submarine Awards highlight what we already know — that the submarine community is like no other. It is strong, close-knit, and built on values of service, resilience, and support. Thanks to events like this, and with the continued support of the RNRMC and TSF, we can ensure that those who serve, those who have served, and the families who stand beside them are recognised, celebrated, and supported long into the future.
