HMS Agamemnon Brings Crew and Families Together for a Milestone Celebration

Event, Families, General, Serving Personnel

On Monday 22nd September, HMS Agamemnon marked her post-commissioning with a special family event in Barrow-in-Furness, supported by a grant from Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, the Submarine Family, Greenwich Hospital, and the HMS Oardacious Health & Wellbeing Fund.

The celebration brought together the ship’s company, their families, and civilian partners to recognise the achievements of the crew and the milestone of the boat’s commissioning. The gathering took place at the Barrow Raiders venue, where a large marquee provided space for live music, speeches from senior officers, and a lively programme of entertainment. More than 450 serving personnel, their families, and community guests enjoyed a hog roast and BBQ, with free refreshments provided by BAE Systems and Rolls Royce. Children had fun on the inflatables, while a DJ and live band kept the atmosphere lively and festive. This event was a lovely opportunity for families to come together, strengthen bonds, and celebrate the dedication and hard work of HMS Agamemnon’s crew. It also provided an important space for the Royal Navy to connect with defence industry partners and recognise their role in supporting the submarine’s journey.

We were delighted to support HMS Agamemnon’s post-commissioning family event. Celebrations like this are so important because they bring people together, strengthen the bonds between serving personnel and their loved ones, and remind families how valued they are as part of the wider naval community. It’s a privilege for RNRMC to play a part in recognising the dedication of the crew and supporting the families who stand behind them.

Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity was proud to support this celebration, recognising the vital role families play in naval life and ensuring they feel valued as part of the wider submarine family.
