For the Submarine Association Merseyside Branch, the annual association meal in Liverpool is far more than a social occasion. It’s a vital opportunity for connection and camaraderie among veterans and their families.
With help from a remembrance and comradeship grant supported by Greenwich Hospital, the event was made accessible to all members, including elderly veterans. Funding contributed towards travel, accommodation, and meal costs, omitting financial barriers so that no one was left out of this valued gathering.
Beyond the social aspect, the meal allows the committee to check in with members, identify those who may need further assistance, and connect them with the right support services. For many, it provides a sense of belonging and helps to combat feelings of loneliness or isolation.
It is an honour and privilege to support the Merseyside Submariners Association annual dinner. The function is crucial in fostering a sense of community among members and providing a focal point for annual reconnection.
Through shared stories members are able to support and advise one another on all matters personal or otherwise.
As our membership decreases, the dinner is instrumental in maintaining branch activities and connection to our members.
