Trafalgar night is one of the most cherished evenings in the Royal Navy calendar. It’s a moment to celebrate naval history and heritage, as well as the spirit of togetherness that defines service life.
This year Naval Command Headquarters marked the occasion on HMS Warrior* with an all-ranks celebration. Guests were treated to a traditional Trafalgar night dinner through a special selection process to reward and recognise Sailors and Royal Marines’ positive contributions, hard work and dedication to the Naval Service, whilst also taking part in a long-standing Naval Tradition in incredible surroundings. Individuals who exemplify core values and have made a significant contribution to the Naval Service had a Citation submitted which went to a Selection Board with successful nominees attending this dinner. The guests of honour included Cdre Ian Feasey (COMSURFLOT), and Honorary Colonel Dwayne Fields, current Chief Scout. We also had WO2 Ian Davies RM attending as RNRMC representative.
The naval tradition created an atmosphere of pride and unity that perfectly captured the meaning of Trafalgar Night.

Thanks to the RNRMC, the All Ranks Trafalgar Dinner aboard HMS Warrior isn’t just a memorable evening—it’s a chance to recognise our people and celebrate their service, the RMRMC makes this evening possible

As with all Trafalgar Night celebrations across the Royal Navy, this event honoured Admiral Lord Nelson’s legacy and reminded all in attendance of the enduring bonds that connect those who serve.
It was certainly a night I will not forget, during my relatively short career this has been my first exposure to any formal event that such hard work had clearly been put into. The tradition and way the dinner is conducted has certainly opened my eyes to the traditions of The Royal Navy and I hope to see more in my hopefully, very long career.

This celebration was supported through RNRMC funding, helping to bring people together and strengthen community spirit across the Naval family.
* Usually, this event would take place on Nelson’s ship, HMS Victory, however it is currently having important maintenance work done to support the integrity of the ship and allow everyone to be able to appreciate it in all its glory for many years to come.
