Why Nelson’s Company?

Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson was undoubtedly a hero - one of the greatest Britain has
ever produced. A naval captain before he was 21, a household name throughout most
of Europe at 39 and killed in action just weeks after his 47th birthday, he possessed
a genius for naval warfare and remains a towering figure of his age. His victories at
the Nile, Copenhagen and Trafalgar, created the Pax Britannica allowing a century of
peace and the pre-eminence of the British Empire. Nelson did not win his victories
alone. He gathered round him a succession of often brilliant captains to put his bidding
into action. Nelson’s Company has been formed by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines
Charity, the national charity of the Royal Navy, to bring together like-minded supporters
of the Senior Service and to support the charity in its mission to ensure that all sailors,
marines and their families are valued and supported for life.
