Officer Cadet Matthew Reed, HMNB Devonport

Matthew joined the Royal Navy Reserves approximately 2 years ago after visiting a Babcock recruitment event.

"I had never worked closely with the Royal Navy before so never really knew what the Royal Navy was really like...apart from the adverts on TV.

The more I worked with the Royal Navy the more it appealed to me. So when a recruitment event was organised in work I was keen to find out what life as a reservist would be like. Within 5 minutes of talking to who is now my RNSO Lt Cdr Bennett, I was sold.

In my Royal Navy Reserves unit we have many events which we try to do as a team, I am Plymouth born and bred so when I saw we had some keen sportsmen/women I suggested we run the Plymouth Half Marathon and try and raise some funds for the men/women serving and veterans of the RN.

It gives me a great sense of achievement and proudness to state that I am running the Plymouth half marathon as part of a team of reservists raising money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity!"

Josie - Royal Navy Dental Cadet, Royal Cornwall Hospital

"I'm currently living in Falmouth studying in my 4th year of Dentistry at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. I'm am a Royal Navy Dental Cadet and will be joining the Royal Navy full time when I graduate from Plymouth Uni next summer!

I'm so excited to run the Plymouth half marathon again, especially with the new Devon URNU and the Vivid Royal Navy Reserves, as a team for a great cause. I love to take every opportunity that comes my way and I am looing forward to representing the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity!"

Henry Tyzack-Clark, Medicine student at Exeter University

"I am into my second year of studying Medicine at Exeter, aged 21, with the hope of going into the Royal Navy medical branch after university. I commute to HMS Vivid on Wednesdays when I can! I am currently an AB2 serving with the Information Operations branch and have been affiliated with HMS Vivid for over a year now.

Fundraising has very much been a team effort, with a short while left to boost the numbers a little more!"
