News Latest news New Warrant Officers and Senior Rates Mess and Bar unveiled on board HMS Queen Elizabeth A freshly refurbished Warrant Officers and Senior Rates Mess was unveiled during a ceremony on the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier on Monday 13th August. This new recreation area, which has been largely funded by a Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) grant, has been transformed into a welcoming home away from home for the sailors of the ship. Captain of HMS Queen Elizabeth, Jerry Kyd said: “I think people forget how important it is to have a lounge and relaxation area because this is our home and it’s not just a warship - it’s where people live. I could not be more grateful to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity for their support to my ship. Of course, this is replicated across the fleet and I think this is a lovely example where money donated to the RNRMC, who support the frontline so brilliantly, has a direct impact on people’s quality of life and the operational output of the fleet. It is as simple as that; thank you very much.” The new area will provide the Senior Rates and Warrant Officers with a space where they can unwind while away on long deployments. A stylish new bar christened The Queen’s Head has also been fitted by independent family brewer and pub operator, Wadworth Brewery. The bar will stock Wadworth’s very own Carrier Ale, which was created in 2017 to commemorate the commissioning of the aircraft carrier. For every bottle sold throughout the ship, 5p will be donated back to the RNRMC- the principal charity of the Royal Navy and the affiliate charity of HMS Queen Elizabeth. Funding and support for the project have also been provided by the Nuffield Trust, BAE Systems and the RN Rebalancing Lives fund. Speaking about this fantastic refurbishment, Director of Relationships and Funding at the RNRMC, Mandy Lindley said: “After months of planning and hard work, it is fantastic to the see the new Warrant Officers and Senior Rates Mess finished in all its glory. “As the affiliate charity of HMS Queen Elizabeth, the RNRMC is committed to ensuring that the sailors and marines, both now and in the future time, are comfortable and happy while serving onboard.” The official unveiling of the mess and bar was attended by Capt Jerry Kyd RN Commanding Officer HMS Queen Elizabeth, Mrs Mandy Lindley, Director of Relationships and Funding at the RNRMC and Chris Welham CEO and Jonathan Thomas, commercial director of Wadworth. HMS Queen Elizabeth is set to deploy on a tour of the United States of America on Friday 17th August.
