Staff from The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity prepare to take on Great South Run for their charity and The Royal Marines Charity.

David Williamson (Data Analyst), Suzy Slight (Senior Finance and Payroll Officer), Kristian Glover (Operations Coordinator) and Kyle Mattison (Digital Marketing Officer) will be competing in the Great South Run this Sunday whilst raising money for the National Charity of the Royal Navy and its sister charity The Royal Marines Charity.

When speaking about why he has chosen to take part on behalf of the charity, David Williamson said:

This is my fourth Great South Run, but my first for a few years having wanted to move up a level to marathons and 24-hour events. I decided to come back to the GSR because the atmosphere is amazing; the sheer numbers of supporters lining the streets makes this event truly special.

It also ties in with coming to work for the RNRMC back in March, and wanting to do something to show how much I appreciate being here. A Naval charity in a Naval city which is hosting one of the world’s best ten-mile events, the dots just join themselves together and I wanted to be part of this again.

From a personal point of view, I have been helping to train another wheelchair athlete taking part in their first GSR, so it’s one more opportunity to show people that they should “see the ability, not the dis”.

Suzy Slight will be running, in part, as training for the New York Marathon on 5th November.

"I have done the Great South Run for the last 5 years and a couple of times back in the early 2000s when I didn’t have a clue what I was doing!

I’ve been preparing by following my marathon training plan including a 22 mile run last Sunday where I got the train to Liss and ran home."

Kristian Glover will be running for the RNRMC's sister charity, The Royal Marines Charity.

We wish everyone who is competing on Sunday the best of luck!
