Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity Trustee Gary Nicolson has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list 2015.

Gary, a Warrant Officer Class 1 Marine Engineering Mechanic (Marine Engineering Submarines), has served as an RNRMC Trustee for five years and has a history of fundraising for charity, having previously raised money for several children’s hospices in Scotland.

In addition to his charitable activities, Gary was credited by the Royal Navy for his sustained contributions to the submarine service, for his pivotal involvement in improving processes, ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of training.

In receipt of the honour, Rear Admiral Simon Williams highlighted Gary’s involvement in The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Field Gun Competition as a particularly important contribution to the Service community:

“A fervent supporter of the Competition over many years, your participation as runner, trainer and Executive committee member is most impressive.

“Ever willing to share your experience and knowledge, you demonstrate the utmost dedication and energy. The participation of teams from the other Services and from overseas is as a direct result of your infectious enthusiasm.”

Total commitment

Rear Admiral Williams later praised Gary’s role as a Trustee; a role which Gary has taken for five years.

“Totally committed to the Royal Navy, your achievements in the development of personnel, the maintenance of Naval ethos and to charitable activities are in the finest traditions of the Service,” he concluded.

Digby Nelson, Chief Operating Officer of the RNRMC, said: “This is brilliant news for Gary and we’re all very pleased for him. Over the years Gary’s commitment to the Charity has been nothing short of outstanding.

“As a Trustee and serving member of the Royal Navy, he’s championed our cause in Naval establishments right around the country. As a grants committee chairman, he’s fought to make a real difference within the Naval Service and seen hundreds of thousands of pounds committed to projects that improve lives on a daily basis.

“Gary’s a real friend and asset to the Charity. He is fully deserving of the honour.”
