Guests from the local business and Naval community gathered with members of the Ship’s company of HMS Sultan on Thursday evening, in order to raise valuable funds for the Royal Navy and Royal Marine’s Charity (RNRMC). The HMS Sultan Summer Show Charity Reception marks the start of the HMS Sultan Summer Show.

The Show programme also includes an invitation only Children’s Party for disadvantaged and disabled children, held on the Friday, and two days of action packed entertainment across the Father’s Day weekend, which raises further fund for local and Service Charities.

HMS Sultan’s Volunteer Band performed throughout the evening, as guests enjoyed refreshments and canapés served by the Establishment’s cadets from the Volunteer Cadet Corps. At the end of the evening, the Volunteer Band, completed the programme of entertainment for the evening by performing a Beat Retreat followed by Ceremonial Sunset performed in the main arena as the Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral Jonathan Woodcock received the salute.

Over the last five years the RNRMC has funded various projects for the trainees at HMS Sultan, including refurbishing the Wardroom, helping with running costs of the popular steam lorry attraction and most recently assisting the HMS Sultan Field Gun team’s training costs.

Hilary Jukes, Regional Fundraising Coordinator, said: “We can’t wait to see everyone at the weekend. We’ve got loads of fun and games for everyone to enjoy – and also an Aston Martin to show off thanks to our friends in the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund! You can take your chances to win it as we’ll be selling raffle tickets on the day. “We’re particularly looking forward to meeting the families of HMS Sultan and watching all the action in the main arena.”
