Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity chosen by Jersey Boat Show 2014 To mark the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines this year’s Barclays Jersey Boat Show will help raise the profile and much needed funds for two armed forces charities, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Holidays for Heroes Jersey. Since the Jersey Boat Show’s launch in 2008 the Royal Navy has had a regular presence through visiting Navy vessels and personnel including fisheries protection and security vessel HMS Mersey and university vessels HMS Smiter and HMS Blazer. The two beneficiary charities were selected by Barclays, the main sponsor of the Jersey Boat Show. Paul Savery, Managing Director for Barclays Intermediaries said: "Jersey enjoys a close and longstanding relationship with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines and they have provided great support for the Barclays Jersey Boat Show over the previous four years we have been involved. I know that touring the visiting Royal Navy vessels is a 'must-do' for visitors young and old. As such, it’s fantastic that we can do something in return through our support of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Holidays for Heroes Jersey at this year’s show, both of which do such great work for our Forces personnel. “It is especially pleasing that this support coincides with such a significant anniversary for the Royal Marines. “The Barclays Jersey Boat Show always has strong naval elements, so it is great to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of and funding for these two charities.” Robert Robson, Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the benefiting charities for the Barclays Jersey Boat Show. The Royal Navy has had a long-standing presence at the event so it’s a privilege to be selected from the many Service charities that do such a great job for our Service men and women. “Last year we supported a beneficiary group of over 1.2 million people, and distributed over £7.3 million in grants to do so. The contribution made by Barclays will help the Charity continue its vital work in support of Naval Service personnel and their families.” The 2014 Barclays Jersey Boat Show will take place in and around St Helier Marina over the May Bank Holiday of Saturday 3 until Monday 5 May.
