News and Media Latest news Charity scores generous bounty from HMS Sultan's Charity Chest HMS Sultan has welcomed representatives from local and Service charities into the training establishment, for a special charity reception held to distribute proceeds raised form the 2015 HMS Sultan Summer Show. Presented by Captain Trevor Gulley, the Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan, and the Guest of Honour, local Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage, a grand total of 39 different charities and good causes gained from the Show's Charity Chest of £26,000. The money was raised by the establishment's personnel, with the help of local businesses and the 25,000 visitors who attended the Summer Show, across the Father's Day weekend of 15 and 16 June. Amongst the local benefactors were a number of charities including the Mayor of Gosport's own charity, youth groups, school clubs and those involved with the care and welfare of the infirmed. Key partners With the establishment also committed to support Service charities and community projects, the Blind Veterans Summer Camp, hosted by the establishment every year, and key Show partner the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), for whom the establishment also held a Charity Reception, were among the benefactors. Receiving on behalf of the RNRMC was their Regional Fundraiser South East and Central, Hilary Jukes who said: "Once again we are grateful to HMS Sultan for their ongoing support. Donations such as this enable the RNRMC to continue to support the veteran community through a wide variety of projects, but also to support the serving community and their families. "We are currently funding a much needed refurbishment of the Warrant Officer and Senior Rates Mess at HMS Sultan which will not only benefit those currently working within the Establishment and their families, but and also the wider community who on occasion also get to use the facilities." Community spirit On completion of the presentation Captain Gulley thanked all those attending and everyone who had made the Show a success, he said: "As always, I am so very proud of every one of my personnel who were involved in supporting the community at the Summer Show. It was another good year for all involved, everyone who attended seemed to really enjoy the event, and we were especially grateful for the local businesses who also came alongside us to make the event a success."We are delighted to celebrate the money raised and it's distribution within our community. Today's reception is also an opportunity to recognise the tireless efforts and sacrifices of all of the wonderful volunteers who regularly give up their for the benefit of others. We are delighted to be able to lend our support to their good causes and look forward to seeing the Summer Show’s donations put to good effect."
