The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is delighted that it is to benefit from an appearance by Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt on ITV’s reality hit show Splash!

Penny, an Acting Sub-Lieutenant (ASLt) in the Royal Naval Reserve, has nominated to raise cash for the RNRMC alongside a number of other military charities, including the ABF, RAF Benevolent Fund and Give Us Time.

Penny’s challenge, which is aired on Saturday 18 January, will see her take to a 10 metre high diving board to face-off against a number of celebrity contestants as they try to master the art of diving.

Despite her Royal Naval training, Penny admits the reality of facing a live audience and an expert panel of judges, high above an Olympic-sized pool, isn’t easy: “I have the elegance and drive of a paving slab, but my navy training has certainly given me the guts to take on the challenge head on,” she says.

Hugh Thompson, Head of Fundraising at the RNRMC, wished Penny well on her prime-time television appearance.

"We’re delighted that Penny has chosen to make a splash with us in 2014. Penny’s connection to the sea-faring forces, as a Royal Naval Reservist, makes the RNRMC a natural fit for her water-based challenge," he said.

"We all wish her the best of luck for the show and hope she manages to raise lots of money for her nominated charities."

The show, presented by Team GB Olympic Bronze Medal winning diver Tom Daley, will also feature singer and musician Paul Young, model Danielle Lloyd, comedian Patrick Monahan and The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Osbourne.

Proceeds from Penny’s appearance on the show are to be donated to the Hilsea Lido community renovation project in Portsmouth.
