Christmas came early for the Royal Navy and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) as the local Tesco in Fratton Way, Portsmouth, stepped in to support the carol services on board HMS Victory in the Historic Dockyard, with free mince pies and mulled wine.

The annual carol services take place over two days this Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 December and are hosted by the Naval Base Commander, Commodore Jeremy Rigby ADC, and the Second Sea Lord Vice Admiral Jonathan Woodcock OBE.

Sarah-Jayne Craig, Grants Administrator at the RNRMC, who was on hand to receive the goods, said: “In true Christmas spirit, when the sailors organising the carol services contacted the local Tesco for the reception, they were gratefully surprised by the supermarket’s generous offer to contribute the stock free of charge. We are truly thankful for the support given to the events.”

Sailors will be collecting donations during both evenings for the RNRMC, the Navy’s principal charity.
