Great South Run 2017 Experience the iconic sights of Portsmouth and Southsea this October whilst taking on this flat and fast 10 mile course. The race Starting life in Southampton in 1990, the race moved to Portsmouth a year later and is now the only 10 mile running event in the world to have achieved IAAF gold label status. Previous athletes who have won the fast and flat 10 mile course include Sonia O’Sullivan, Paula Radcliffe and Mo Farah. Take in the sights including the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, HMS Victory and the Spinnaker Tower. The course finished with a straight stretch by the beach with beautiful views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. Part of a festival of sport in Portsmouth, nearly 30,000 people take part in four events across two days, including the Junior & Mini Great South Run and the Great South Run 5K, staged the day before the 10 mile event.
