The NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) at Stavanger, Norway has taken delivery of a new Safety Boat that was part funded by military charities, including Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity funding, while up to 60 per cent of the purchase was provided by the Nuffield Trust for the Forces of the Crown.

"The boat will be operated by the Sailing Club and will be used to deliver safety assurance on the water during the Club dinghy sailing activities. The boat is now fully commissioned and fitted out with the auxiliary equipment necessary to operate in the local sailing waters on Hafrsfjord and has been extensively used during the busy summer dinghy sailing programme.

There are some photographs enclosed from the youth training week that took place 3-7 August, where 18 children from JWC-based families enjoyed a challenging week in the blustery conditions. There have been five further training courses for the staff and families of JWC, so our Club sailing days are busy with newly qualified members.

The Sailing Club provides a valuable component to the maintenance of morale and welfare of the personnel at this NATO base and we are very grateful for the generous contribution made by the Nuffield Trust and Service Charities to enable the Sailing Club to continue their Dinghy sailing.

With our grateful thanks,

Stephen Williamson
