The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity would like to thank and congratulate Pat Avery, who has now donated over £1000 from the sale of his book 'The Battle of Jutland'.

"The most revealing information about the battle often comes from the personal diaries of the sailors involved, and Pat Avery, grandson of a telegraphist that survived this epic encounter, published the book Duel in the North Sea HMS Ambuscade at Jutland earlier this year, based on his grandfathers’ diary entries.

Published in May 2016 to coincide with the centenary of the battle, the book has so far raised over £1,000 for The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity.

Publicity for the book has been enormous, and included an appearance by Pat on the BBC TV Songs of Praise programme, which featured presenter Claire McCollum, and the Royal Navy’s Chaplain to the Fleet, The Venerable Ian Wheatley.  Filming took place in May on board HMS Caroline, the sole surviving ship that was involved in the Battle of Jutland.  HMS Caroline is now open to the public in the Titanic Quarter Belfast as a floating museum.

Pat said “This whole experience has been a truly humbling one, and I am really delighted with the fundraising results. The response has been fantastic”
