News Blogs Southsea Charity Fun Day kicks off charitable weekend John Millard contacted us with the ambition to organise and run a family fun day, in order to raise money for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), to which we gratefully agreed to assist. With the Great South Run falling on the same weekend there were worries that the footfall might not be as high as planned. However, John writes; “…the day itself ran smoothly and we had traders selling cakes, beads, bears and sweets, along with a bouncy castle, strength test and ride-along ponies during the day. There was also a name-the-bear competition and raffle during the day. There was also an acoustic set played by Sonny Jim. In the evening there was entertainment from bands and cabaret acts and the evening entertainment was hosted by Misty Lee. The acts were BlokeZone Cabaret, Boltik, Jay Guevarra, Nothing In Advance (my band) (I’m on the drums) and then Lilly Garland. Over the whole day, raffle tickets were sold for an evening raffle which included prizes such as gift vouchers, jewellery and alcohol, with the top 4 prizes being signed Portsmouth FC Pictures and Football and a meal for 2 at Nelson’s Bar and Restaurant. All of these prizes were donated by different organisations that we had contacted or who had attended the day’s festivities. So far we have counted the money and raised just over £420 to be split between RNRMC and the Tom Prince Cancer Trust and we will be collecting a cheque from Southsea Caravan Park who are donating 10% of all food sold during the day, so will hopefully reach £500. “ A massive thank you to John for organising the event which was clearly a huge success. The plan for the day was to host an enjoyable event for all involved and raise money for the RNRMC in the process, this was definitely achieved.Continuing with the theme of success, we had a successful turnout at the Great South Run a day later, where a number of runners took part on behalf of the charity.
