Falklands Field Gun Pull

On the 11th -13th May a team of Royal Naval personnel are replicating the 56 mile walk carried out by the Royal Marines during the Falklands Conflict of 1982, where they walked from San Carlos to Port Stanley to engage Argentine forces. The modern day team will however be pulling a traditional Naval Field Gun the distance in 2 days around the New Forest after being dropped off by original conflict landing craft on the New Forest Beaches. All proceeds will be going to the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity who are a charity that support serving and ex serving members of the RN along with their families

Please support our team undertaking this arduous and gruelling event in any way you can. Any donation however small is appreciated.

Chief Dan McCormack, Senior Instructor Royal Navy and Team Leader for the Royal Navy 56 Mile Field Gun Pull

"The support the public showed the boys over the weekend was phenomenal. We collected £900 in collection buckets alone and many people have since donated via our virgin money giving website. We were overwhelmed by the welcome extended to us at Beaulieu. The rounds of applause on arrival and warm hospitality shown to us by visitors and staff were a fitting end to a fantastic weekend of fundraising for the RNRM Charity."

The fundraising will continue until the RN Team march through London in early June where they intend to lay a wreath in remembrance to those who fell in the Falklands at the Cenotaph.

Red White and Blue Day

Red, White and Blue Day is a national fundraising event for schools which will take place on Friday, October 12, 2012. Serving personnel are asked to sacrifice a lot for their country, but we mustn't forget that their families make sacrifices too. So Red, White and Blue Day is all about raising money for Forces personnel and their families, with particular focus on the 170,000 Forces children living in the UK today.

ABF The Soldiers' Charity, the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity have joined forces for this project, and would love to see every school in the country support us by taking part in a day of fun activities: children can bring in £1 each and dress up in red, white and blue, schools can hold cake sales or pupils can come up with their own ways of getting involved.

It's a simple but effective way for all school children to show their support, not only for all of our Armed Forces but also for their friends and peers whose parents have dedicated themselves to serving their country.

The three national charities which support the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, the Army, and the Royal Air Force are of course keen to raise vital funds for servicemen and women and their families. The focus of the campaign will be on Service children, who are affected by the pressures and complications of life in the Armed Forces – including the mobility of Service families; parents being deployed overseas for long periods; and, worst of all, the ever present fear of Dad or Mum not returning home.

Last year more than 54,000 children from 175 schools took part in the first Red, White and Blue day. This year we are hoping to double our number and raise £100,000!

Please register now at www.redwhiteblueday.co.uk where you will also find, posters, stories from Service children, plus many more ideas for your own Red, White and Blue Day.

You can also keep up-to-date via Twitter and Facebook. For general information please email us on support@redwhiteblueday.co.uk.

Your contribution will help to fund the following:

   •   Paying for a new play park for Army children
   •   Trained youth workers to run after school clubs and activities on RAF stations
   •   Supporting a scheme for soldiers on operations to record bedtime stories for their children
   •   Paying for childcare facilities and building new games areas and play parks on 28 RAF stations
   •   Arranging grants to Naval charities

We hope that your school will be able to take part in this year's Red, White and Blue Day and help us to continue our work supporting the men, women and children of the Armed Forces community.

Thank you.

Ashcroft Arts Centre in Fareham has been in receipt of a grant from the MOD Community Covenant Scheme and are running a project in 2012 to engage young people in five local schools with the Armed Forces. All the groups are visiting local historical sites and meeting people to find out about life in service. The groups are then working with a professional film company to create original short films which will be screened at the Ashcroft Forces Film Festival in July. Yorkie can put his feet up after 250-mile walk home from work

A TIRELESS Royal Navy engineer is finally home after walking 250 miles from his Scottish base for charity to mark his retirement.

Dave Stout, known as Yorkie, set off from Faslane naval base, north of Glasgow, on February 24 after handing in his warrant card at the end of 30 years of service.

The 47-year-old Petty Officer’s gruelling trek has so far raised around £2,000 for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the money is still rolling in.

His wife Heather said: “I’m very, very proud of what my husband has done and I’m glad to have him home.
“His feet are a bit battered and bruised now, there are a few blisters and he is still hobbling about a bit.”
Stout completed the walk with his loyal West Highland White Terrier, Flint.

He was also joined by friends, family and colleagues who took it in turns to keep him company.
Among them was one of his his best friends, Paul Abbey.

“He was there when Yorkie left to join the Navy 30 years ago and he wanted to be there when he left,” said Heather.
Friends, family and his scooter club, Phoenix Bradford, welcomed him home to Queensbury with a party at his local pub, the George III, on Saturday.

Yorkie hopes to have raised £100 for every year he has been in the Royal Navy once all the cash has been collected.

Dave Stouts "Long Walk Home" - Faslane to Bradford

Royal Navy Marine Engineer, David “Yorkie” Stout, left the navy after almost 30 years service on February 24th 2012.  He handed his warrant card in at HMS Neptune, north of Glasgow, and is going to walk home.

Fair enough you might think; if he’s had a "wee dram" on his last day then leaving the car at home might be sensible.

However, Yorkie lives in Queensbury in West Yorkshire - 250 miles away!

This is going to be a real challenge as Yorkie, (47)  is, by his own admission, is “Stout by name and stout by nature”, and is not used to long distance walking.  He has been in training for the walk which he will tackle over two weeks.

Yorkie has chosen the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity to receive his sponsorship and he will be joined by others who will walk shorter distances for an array of charities.  The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is a national charity which provides a better quality of life for serving and former naval service personnel.
