What we do

  • Dependants - In the event of death-in-service we provide immediate relief in form of a grant of £12,000 within 48 hours to the dependant identified with the most need.
  • Benevolence - We meet an individual's need through the funding we give to specific Naval and military charities.
  • Amenities - We support the serving community in three ways
    • Operational grants - Every six months all operational units receive a grant for the Commanding Officer to use at their discretion for the welfare of their men and women.
    • Minor and major grants - We award substantial grants for equipment, facilities, families days and other team building events
  • Sport - Our sports charity funds 39 different Sporting Associations and enables our Olympic and Paralympic athletes to receive world class coaching
  • Prizes and Awards - We recognise professional excellence and achievement through the funds we make available to Commanding Officers.

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity exist to provide a better quality of life for serving and former Naval Service personnel. This includes the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Maritime Reserves, QARNNS (Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service), and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and former members of the Women’s Royal Naval Service.

We provide a single focus for charities that support Naval Service personnel.

We are here to support the whole Naval family who are in need, suffering hardship or in distress. We do this through our grants to the Naval charities which provide through-life care to those whose service might be long behind them but can always call on the safety net available to them.

For grants to individuals in need we work with the Royal Navy Officers' Charity, QARNNS (Queen Alexandra’s Royal Naval Nursing Service), The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children's Fund and the Women's Royal Naval Benevolent Trust. Once they have assessed a case, they will access the relevant charities for assistance. The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity provides funds to those charities not to individual cases.

We also exist to improve the morale and professional wellbeing of serving personnel and their families. So, we provide funds for a huge variety of projects and opportunities. We can't do this without your help.
